DMN 40Under40 2018: Ryan Kelly, Vice President of Marketing, Nanigans

This year’s group of DMN 40Under40 winners have a few things in common. Well yes, they’re under 40. Also they have a proven track record of marketing excellence and leadership, whether they’re in roles supporting global brands, or leading their own thriving start-ups. Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to know our winners, and what they’ve accomplished.
Ryan Kelly is the Vice President of Marketing at Nanigans

What has been your proudest career accomplishment to date?

Successfully pivoting from being an attorney with zero marketing experience, to becoming the first marketing hire of an early stage consumer startup.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to future 40Under40 honorees?

Don’t let the sunk cost fallacy prevent you from making a change. Just because you’ve invested time or effort into a decision, doesn’t mean you need to continue in that direction (or down that path).  Use your experience as leverage to move in a new direction.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

Keep learning and stay curious. Marketing is constantly changing and there seems to be a convergence of B2C and B2B marketing tactics as we speak.

What is one interesting fact about you that few people know?

I love to cook, it’s very much a passion of mine. Always use fresh pasta and never use garlic from a jar!
