DMI Speaker: Privacy Issue May End Soon

WHITE PLAINS, NY – Online privacy issues may be resolved soon as people become able to use the Internet anonymously, said a keynote speaker at Direct Media’s Mailers Co-op Conference here yesterday. Rodney Joffe, president of White Hat Inc., and Ruth P. Stevens, New York University professor of direct marketing, analyzed Joffe’s predictions about the Internet’s future from his keynote speech at Direct Media’s 1994 co-op. Joffe, tongue in cheek, repeated his ’94 statement that “within five years, print catalogs will be extremely rare.” As the audience chuckled, Stevens replied, “This is dead wrong.” Joffe and Stevens agreed that the most important issue facing DMers is privacy, while Joffe predicted online privacy will become complete within the next year.
