DMEF names Rising Stars

The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) has named Janet Barker-Evans, SVP at Draftfcb, Todd Leiser, VP of database marketing at Rodale Inc., Joseph Pak, sales operations senior analyst Google Inc.; Joe Pych, founder and president of NextMark Inc.; and Jeff Yowell, founder, president and CEO of Datacore Marketing.as the 2008 DMEF Rising Stars Award winners. The awards will be presented at DMEF’s Rising Stars Awards Dinner on June 10.

Wunderman and KnowledgeBase Marketing will also be honored with the 2008 DMEF Corporate Commitment Award, an honor given to companies that regularly demonstrate a commitment to educating new talent. Wunderman University provides employees worldwide with courses taught by a network of internal “faculty.” KnowledgeBase also provides internal multi-level training opportunities.

This is the second year that the foundation is bestowing the Rising Stars awards, which celebrate industry professionals who are 40 years or younger with leadership abilities, a track record of results and a commitment to direct marketing education.

In fact, many of the honorees are involved with direct marketing industry beyond their day jobs. Barker-Evans has taught college classes in advertising strategy and Internet marketing, while Leiser has served on the DMA’s Ethics Policy Committee and was its 2007 chairperson. Pak is a recent graduate of New York University’s direct and interactive marketing master’s degree program and helped expand the practice of search engine marketing in Africa.

Both Pych and Yowell are the founders of companies that have had a profound impact on the industry. Pych’s measurement innovations, including matchback, have streamlined the list marketing process, while Yowell grew a two-person company into a nationally recognized database partner.
