DMAW Marks 50th Anniversary Next Month

The Direct Marketing Association of Washington, Alexandria, VA, said yesterday that it will commemorate its 50 years of service to direct marketers with a celebration Dec. 15.

The event will be a reception at the National Press Club from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost to attend is $65 for members and $80 for nonmembers.

Started in 1955, the DMAW has more than 1,500 active members in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Though the Direct Marketing Association of Washington is structured as a regional organization, the active membership has an address base that is both national and international in scope.

“Nonprofit organizations and trade associations are increasingly more important players in the direct marketing industry — a major change from previous times when publishing was the dominant business,” DMAW executive director Barbara Armentrout said in a statement. “Fundraising has come to rely heavily on direct marketing techniques, adding scientific modeling and measurement to charitable appeals to enable nonprofits to get more benefit from development dollars.”
