DMA Supports Prescott for UPU Chair; McShane to Head Retail Operating Committee

The Direct Marketing Association said yesterday that it supports the nomination of Charles Prescott — the DMA's vice president of international business development and government affairs — to be chairman of the Consultative Committee of the Universal Postal Union.

The formation of the committee is scheduled to be approved at the UPU Congress set for Sept. 15-Oct. 5 in Bucharest, Romania. Membership is open to organizations that have an interest in international mail traffic, the DMA said.

Prescott has practiced international, securities and publishing law in Tokyo and New York. He was international counsel for the Reader's Digest Association before joining the DMA in 1998.

Founded in 1874 as the General Postal Union, the UPU establishes the rules for the exchange of letter post items. It is a specialized agency of the United Nations.

In other news, Kevin McShane, senior vice president of database marketing services provider BeNOW, accepted the position of chairman of the DMA's retail operating committee.

McShane's database marketing and CRM background includes experience with multi-channel retail and catalog companies such as BeNOW clients Hammacher Schlemmer, JC Whitney, Tower Records, Rhodes Furniture and Bridgestone Firestone.

McShane joined BeNOW in 2000 as senior vice president.
