DMA Reschedules Insert Media Day

The Direct Marketing Association said yesterday that the annual Insert Media Day conference hosted by its Insert Media Council has been moved from fall to spring and will be held next in March 2007.

Prior to the council operating committee's meeting in November, council members acknowledged that it was examining the direction of the 3-year-old show and would look at survey responses that were completed in October to evaluate it.

At the time, longtime insert media professional Leon Henry said that skipping a year would be “suicidal.” Henry, chairman of Leon Henry Inc., Hartsdale, NY, said March would be fine if the day were held in 2006.

“The decision to move the event from the fall into the spring is a result of surveys of Insert Day attendees who have indicated that spring is a more convenient time of the year,” Ann Zeller, DMA vice president of membership services, said in a statement.

Insert Media Day 2005 was held Sept. 14 in New York City for the first time instead of in neighboring Westchester County, NY.

To fill the gap between now and the next Insert Media Day, the DMA will add sessions on insert media to its Annual Conference for Catalog, Internet & Multichannel Merchants, taking place May 8-10 in Chicago. One such session will be “Customer Acquisition: Understanding the Economics of Insert Media,” the DMA said.
