DMA Names Special Olympics Nonprofit of the Year

The Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation has named the Special Olympics as its 2001 Nonprofit Organization of the Year. The award will be presented to the organization Aug. 29 during the DMA's New York Nonprofit Conference at the Hilton and Towers.

“Special Olympics has successfully applied cutting-edge direct response marketing techniques in both donor acquisition and cultivation programs to raise the funds and support for their activities,” said Kory Christianson, director of development at St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD, who was elected chairman of the DMA Nonprofit Federation's Advisory Council.

To be eligible for the Nonprofit Organization of the Year award, organizations must demonstrate successful direct response marketing techniques; outstanding financial performance; ethical nonprofit standards; accepted standards for management and public disclosure; and a strong reputation in the nonprofit and direct marketing fields as well as with the public.
