The Direct Marketing Association's board of directors has named Acxiom Corp. Chairman Charles D. Morgan as association chairman for 2001. Michael P. Sherman, an executive at Fingerhut Cos. Inc., has been chosen as DMA vice chairman.
The new officers will begin their terms in October 2000.
Morgan, who is also company leader at Acxiom, Little Rock, AR, is the current DMA vice chairman. He joined Acxiom in 1972 and has been chairman and company leader since 1975.
Morgan will replace current DMA Chairman Jonathan P. Ward, who is president and chief operating officer at R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Chicago.
Sherman is executive vice president of business development and general counsel at Fingerhut, Minnetonka, MN. He joined the company in 1996 and has been executive vice president since July 1998. Sherman has served on the DMA board since 1998 and is a member of its executive committee.
The 13-member board chose the new officers at a meeting in Washington on Wednesday.
The trade organization also nominated four new directors. They are Bruce L. Lev, executive vice president, Micro Warehouse Inc., Norwalk, CT; Gene Henderson, president/CEO, Transmedia Network Inc., North Miami Beach, FL; Wendy Riches, president, D'Arcy Marketing Solutions, New York; and Donn Rappaport, chairman/CEO, American List Counsel Inc., Princeton, NJ.
The DMA will vote on the nominations at its annual business meeting in New Orleans Oct. 15-18. The nominees would serve three-year terms. The four candidates were chosen by the nominating committee of the DMA board.
In addition, the DMA re-elected two board members to a second three-year term. Those directors are C. Eduard Bjorncrantz, vice president of marketing at J.C. Whitney & Co., Chicago, and Lindy Litrides, senior vice president of relationship marketing at the Arthritis Foundation, Atlanta.
The 83-year-old DMA has about 4,600 member companies from the United States and 53 other countries.
