DMA Lays Off 19

The Direct Marketing Association laid off 19 people yesterday and today, or about 10 percent of its staff, DM News has learned.

The cuts were across the board, DMA spokeswoman Christina Duffney said.

“The layoffs were a result of the economic downturn, which was exacerbated by the events of Sept. 11,” she said.

Duffney also said she was unable to give names.

This is the second round of layoffs for the DMA this year. The organization laid off 14 employees in late May, mainly in the seminar area.

“The last time there was more emphasis in one department, but this time I can tell you it was truly across the board,” Duffney said.
