DMA Hosts Teleservices Ethics Briefings

The Direct Marketing Association plans to hold two-hour briefings on teleservices ethics and law at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 and 1 p.m. Oct. 10. They are two of 12 planned by the DMA for the fall, winter and spring.

The increasing pace of legislation concerning direct marketers prompted the DMA to pursue its ethics agenda more aggressively.

“There's so many difficult areas,” said Patricia Faley, DMA vice president for ethics and consumer affairs. “The mere volume of requirements is overwhelming.”

Ian Volner of Venable Attorneys-at-Law hosts the first session, which will cover federal issues including national no-call registry proposals. Dan Smith of DeHart & Darr hosts the Oct. 10 session, which deals with state legal matters.

Both briefings will be at The DMA Seminar Center, 1111 19th St., 11th Floor, Washington. Registration is $99 for DMA members, $159 for non-members. Telephone participation will be permitted. Future briefs will deal with public record access data and privacy and security risks, among other topics.
