DMA calls for Echo submissions, adds search marketing award

The Direct Marketing Association is calling for entries for its 2007 Echo Awards competition, which for the first time will give an award for the most innovative search marketing.

The Echo awards honor excellence in direct marketing creativity, marketing strategy and response results. The deadline for entries is April 24.

The newly added search marketing award will honor the most innovative online search strategies and techniques designed to drive Web traffic, including search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising.

The 2007 Echo Awards Ceremony and Gala will take place Tuesday, Oct. 16, during the DMA07 Conference & Exhibition in Chicago on Oct. 13-18. Howie Mandel, host of the “Deal or No Deal” television show, is this year’s host.

The Echo competition also has been expanded to include five new advertising media:

— E-Mail and Instant Messaging: E-mail, instant text messaging on PCs.

— Mobile: Mobile messaging. Permission-based-marketing messages delivered through a cell phone, PDA or other mobile device.

— Search Engine Marketing: Search engine optimization (SEO) and paid pay-per-click (PPC) advertising.

— Web Advertising: Web ads and online advertising other than search.

— Web Development: Web sites, blogs and Web development. This is content that is not paid Web advertising.
