DMA Buys DM Days Conference

This acquisition of DM Days New York Conference & Expo by the Direct Marketing Association will remove future scheduling conflicts, DMA president/CEO H. Robert Wientzen said.

This year's DM Days is scheduled for June 2-4 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, clashing with the catalog conference June 1-3 in San Francisco. DM Days New York was the largest regional direct marketing show not owned by the DMA. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition went ahead despite knowledge that DM News parent Courtenay Communications Corp. filed a lawsuit against DMD Conferences LLC, the seller of DM Days. The lawsuit accuses DMD Conferences of alleged breach of agreement relating to a proposed sale of the conference assets to Courtenay.

“I'm aware of it, I don't have any comment about any of that,” Wientzen said.

There will be no significant changes in this year's DM Days format. As for staffing, the DMA has bought only the DM Days name and assets.

“We have retained a few of the administrative people for continuity and we've also retained [DM Days former co-owner] Tom Turner and his firm to do the programming.”
