Ditto to Offer Tumblr Image Analysis

Ditto Labs is sealing a “firehose partnership” this week with Tumblr to provide marketers with intelligence on how their brands are presented in the 120 million images posted daily on the social network. “Firehose” is a Tumblr term meaning Ditto gets full public stream access to Tumblr content.

The new relationship expands upon Ditto’s image recognition capabilities for Twitter and Instagram. “Photo-listening provides incredible insight into how people make brands a part of their everyday lives,” said Ditto CEO David Rose in a release announcing the arrangement.

“Adding the unique layer of visual analytics from Ditto Labs allows our brand partners to discover much deeper insights and competitive intelligence into the narratives that play out around their brands each day on Tumblr,” said T.R. Newcomb, Tumblr’s head of business development.

Cambridge, MA-based Ditto Labs was founded more than 10 years ago by MIT-educated engineers who developed what the company calls “industrial strength image recognition.” It offers a SaaS platform that spots logos in photos and offers analysis of follower segments. The platform can access information about the people posting photos and assess attitudes using  “facial mood scores.” It can also engage brand fans in contests that give points for posted images.
