Disney, Verizon pair for mobile park experience

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts are getting more interactive, thanks to a new partnership with Verizon. The two have teamed up to create a more interactive guest experience for Disney theme park visitors with mobile phones.

Starting next year, guests will be able to use their mobile phones for personal tours at both the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort.

“With more than 90% of families bringing a mobile phone into our parks, our objective was to enhance the magical Disney experience through innovative wireless technology,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in a statement.

Park visitors will be able to access Disney features on their Verizon phones including maps with the ability to locate shows, restaurants and the Disney characters in the parks, as well as get real-time attraction availability information. In addition, Disney fans will be able to access mobile games and receive messages from characters.

The new service is being with the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, a new interactive attraction that is coming to Epcot in Walt Disney World Resort next year. The ride invites attendees to play along by teaming with members of Team Possible to save the world from various villains and their mad inventions. Guests can use the official Verizon Wireless handheld communicators, deemed “Kimmunicators,” to navigate the ride.

While Verizon Wireless customers will have exclusive access to some features, some mobile information such as dining locations, show times and locations, will be available to all park visitors, regardless of their cellular carriers.
