Direct Brands SVP, customer acquisition, passes away at 59

Michael Curry, SVP of customer acquisition marketing at Direct Brands, died June 15 after a battle with lymphoma. He was 59.

At Direct Brands, Curry worked on the launch of the Book of the Month Club’s first e-commerce platform. Previously, he worked at The New York Times Co.’s educational media division.

For the 30th anniversary issue of DMNews in November 2009, Curry noted that the “Book of the Month Club was built on the curatorial authority of a board of judges…The board consisted of six individuals from the worlds of academia and literary criticism. Their mission was to inform America on what it should be reading.”

Curry was born September 14, 1951, in the Bronx, NY, to the late Irene Moshuk Curry and William Curry. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in American Studies and English and received a masters of the fine arts in cinema studies from New York University and an MBA from Fordham University.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Katherine, and his daughters Lauren and Julia.

A memorial service will be held June 25 at 11 am at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 84 Ehrhardt Road, Pearl River, NY.

Contributions in Curry’s memory may be made to the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation, P.O. Box 374, Birmingham, MI 48012-0374.
