Diller to Oversee Verizon Wireless

In a sign of its importance at Hill, Holliday, New York, the Verizon Wireless account has gotten its own senior creative executive.

As senior vice president and creative director, Lisa Diller will oversee work on the account. She moved from OgilvyOne, where she was senior partner and group creative director on the IBM account.

“This is a new position,” Diller said, “and reflects both the high volume of work that we produce for Verizon Wireless and the importance of uniting the look, feel and brand essence of our retail work for them.”

Hill, Holliday handles Verizon Wireless retail advertising in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. This covers print, radio, direct marketing and point-of-sale materials.

The telecom company can expect to intensify its advertising after a ruling that lets consumers carry numbers even as they switch wireless carriers.

“Going forward, Lisa's biggest challenge is to make Verizon Wireless stand out in a highly competitive industry where advertising is strongly focused on price and promotions,” said Eileen O'Connor, Hill, Holliday's Boston-based spokeswoman. “But, in Lisa's view, there are still many untapped creative opportunities to be mined here.”
