Digital Video Report Sheds No New Light

Research firm TechTrends, Boston, outlined in a report what digital video recorder companies already know and are working toward making a reality — customers would rather have the technology in a combined set-top through their cable or satellite provider than have to go out and buy a separate unit.

Dubbed “Digital Video Recorder: Mid Year 2000 Review,” the study found that 44 percent of cable subscribers and 50 percent of satellite subscribers are willing to pay for the service. The study indicated, though, that when consumers are willing to purchase a set-top for several hundred dollars, they expect more than just a DVR.
