The American Diabetes Association named Newport Creative Communications, Duxbury, MA, to handle its direct mail fundraising program.
Twelve direct marketing agencies sought the account. Newport won because of its work for national health agencies, veterans groups and animal welfare and environmental organizations.
Income from mail solicitations has risen in the past five years for the diabetes foundation, based in Alexandria, VA. Mailers from the foundation typically educate consumers about diabetes, how to live with it and how to work toward preventing and eventually curing the disease.
Since its founding in 1940, the foundation has evolved into conducting research, education, advocacy and presentation.
A Web site, www.diabetes.org, now delivers information as well as accepts donations. Newport will work to create synergies between the site and mail.
