DHL Starts Program With Independent Shipping Stores

DHL has begun a nationwide program in conjunction with independent mail and parcel centers, the Plantation, FL, company said this week.

Under the Preferred Provider Program, participating retail shipping stores adopt DHL as their preferred transportation provider for express delivery and ground shipping services. These stores will promote DHL services to their customers and will receive preferred rates from DHL.

More than 1,200 independent retail mail and parcel centers have signed up to participate in the program.

It is open to all independent retail mail and parcel centers that are members of the Associated Mail & Parcel Centers, an association of independently owned and operated centers that sell delivery services to the public as well as photocopying, box rentals, notary and other services.

The program is also open to licensees of the group's cooperative buy program and consumer brand, the Neighborhood Postal Center.

A toll-free store location number has been established under the program for consumer use, letting them identify the street address of the nearest Neighborhood Postal Center, its phone number and hours of operation.

DHL said the program — along with 16,000 newly constructed drop boxes that will be added to the DHL network during 2005 — will enhance its street-level footprint.
