DHL Global Forwarding relocates to larger Charlotte facility

DHL Global Forwarding has announced plans to expand its Charlotte, NC, operations by moving to larger facilities near Charlotte International Airport and U.S. Customs.

The 52,000-square foot facility combines the now-integrated operations of DHL Danzas Air & Ocean and Exel Freight Management, each of which previously did business at separate locations in Charlotte.

DHL Global Forwarding is part of the logistics division of Plantation, FL-based DHL. Global Forwarding combines air, ocean, ground transportation and customs brokerage services with dedicated warehousing and distribution centers.

Open for business Dec. 4, the new facility will house DHL Global Forwarding’s air and ocean freight forwarding, customs brokerage and warehousing operations.

The new location will be more than twice the size of the company’s current operation. By being closer to the airport and customs facilities, DHL Global Forwarding will be able to expedite shipment handling and collection of air and ocean shipments moving to and from the United States, as well as the processing and clearance of customer goods entering the country.

Charlotte is the company’s only station in the Carolinas to handle both international air and ocean consignments.

The new site also will have 38,000 square feet of warehouse space-more than twice the capacity of the existing building. The larger space will give DHL Global Forwarding the flexibility to manage more of its own warehousing services in-house, including the needs of the growing number of small to mid-size companies requiring these services.

The relocation marks DHL Global Forwarding’s second expansion in the Carolinas in the past four months. In late August, the company announced it was expanding operations in Charleston, SC.
