Deutsche Post expands presence in Dubai

Deutsche Post World Net’s DHL unit will expand its logistics capabilities in Dubai to 984,252 square feet from the current 278,871 in the next few years.

The announcement was made at a press conference held in Dubai on Feb. 18 by Klaus Zumwinkel, chairman/CEO of Deutsche Post World Net.

The press conference commemorated the company’s 30-year presence in the region. These plans were supported by the news that the Deutsche Post World Net will invest significantly in expanding its presence in the region at the new Dubai Logistics City.

Mr. Zumwinkel said that the expansion would enable the company to meet demand in the Middle East, which has an impressive growth potential.

Comprising an area of 87 square miles, Dubai World Central will be the largest airport and first fully integrated logistics platform in the world.

Deutsche Post World Net’s logistics entity, which includes the DHL Global Forwarding and Exel Supply Chain business in this region, also recently announced two signing agreements.

The first is on 984,252 square feet at the new Cargo Village Jebel Ali Airport forwarding area with an option for a further 492,126 square feet. It has also secured an additional 508,530 square feet in Dubai Logistics City’s specialized contract logistics area with an option for another 255,905 square feet.

DHL Express also outlined plans to further invest in an air integrator hub facility on a 164,041-square-foot plot at the new World Central Airport in Jebel Ali. This hub facility will complement DHL’s existing infrastructure network and provide growth capacity to its current Middle East air/road distribution model.
