Dell's 1Q Revenues Jump 52 Percent

Dell Computer Corp. reported last week that first-quarter revenues skyrocketed 52 percent to $3.9 billion vs. $2.6 billion for the same period last year. Net income for the first quarter ended May 3, rose 54 percent from $198 million to $305 million.

Global sales generated by the Internet are exceeding $5 million each day, which represents about $2 billion annually. The Round Rock, TX, company is operating about 3,000 premier pages, or private Web sites for corporate customers.

Revenue growth was strong across the board, outpacing average market growth by three to six times in every geographic region that Dell has operations.

Chairman and CEO Michael S. Dell said the results rank Dell first in worldwide profits, second in worldwide revenue and third in worldwide units among PC companies, based on the latest reported financial results and estimates of industry analysts.

“Our consistently strong performance demonstrates that buying direct from Dell provides customers with a better overall experience,” Dell said in a statement.
