Dell Computer, Round Rock, TX, moved past Compaq Computer Corp., Houston, last month to take the No. 1 position in PC shipments in the United States, according to International Data Corp. Dell shipped 2.12 million units for the third quarter – a 58 percent increase over the same time last year, according to IDC.
Compaq remains the leader worldwide in shipments but some analysts expect thjat Dell will soon move into first place there as well.
