Delayed Postal Reform Hearing Set for Sept. 17

The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee rescheduled a hearing on the recommendations of the presidential postal reform commission for 10 a.m. Sept. 17, the committee announced yesterday.

Originally set for Sept. 3, the hearing was canceled because of the illness of a scheduled witness. The delay prompted worries that postal reform would get pushed down the congressional agenda given pressing concerns such as the passage of appropriations bills, the U.S. military presence in Iraq and power issues after the regional blackout last month.

James A. Johnson and Harry Pearce, the co-chairs of the presidential reform commission, are scheduled to testify at the hearing.
