DealTime Becomes 10th Most Visited Online Shopping Destination

Comparison shopping search engine DealTime has made it to the Internet's 10th most visited shopping destination, according to Nielsen//NetRatings' data for February.

The New York-based service recorded 5.7 million unique visitors to dealtime.com in February. The site beat out AOL Shopping, southwestairlines.com, BestBuy.com, CDNow.com and American Airlines' AA.com.

“As Internet users increasingly use comparison-shopping searching techniques, DealTime has seen its audience more than triple over the same time last year, claiming a spot among the top ranking as the largest comparison-shopping search engine,” Lisa Strand, director and chief e-commerce analyst at NetRatings, said in a statement.

Partnerships with major portals like Lycos, AltaVista and AskJeeves, and search engines helped DealTime achieve its ranking, Strand said.

NetRatings said Amazon.com, with 31.3 million unique visitors, was the most visited site, followed by Yahoo Shopping, 26.4 million; eBay, 24.7 million; Expedia.com, 9.9 million; Travelocity, 8.2 million; MSN Shopping, 8.1 million; Columbia House, 7.8 million; barnesandnoble.com, 6.1 million; and Orbitz, 5.8 million.

Using algorithms, DealTime allows online buyers to search the Internet and locate products at prices they want. At the same time, merchants and manufacturers can take advantage of qualified in-market buyers and lower customer acquisition costs.
