Dave Florence, Martin Agency Win DMEF Awards

The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation will honor David W. Florence with its DMEF Edward N. Mayer Educational Leadership Award and The Martin Agency with its Corporate Leadership Award this October at the DMA06 annual conference in San Francisco.

The DMEF presents the Mayer award to a direct marketer who has helped advance university-level DM education. Nominations are submitted by peers, and the foundation’s board of trustees selects the winner.

Mr. Florence is founder and chairman of Direct Media Inc., a mailing list and insert media broker and manager in Greenwich, CT. He has served as a DMEF trustee and as director of the Direct Marketing Association and the Advertising Mail Marketing Association. In 2004, he was elected to the DMA Direct Marketing Hall of Fame.

Past winners include Dick and Mary Cabela, Katie Muldoon, Stephen Polk, Marcus Wilhelm and David Shepard.

Corporate award winner The Martin Agency, Richmond, VA, sponsors The Student Workshop twice a year in which 15 students participate in an agency presentation and client project over 10 days to create an ad campaign. Undergraduate students and professors can participate.

This award honors a company that has made contributions to direct and interactive marketing. It recognizes corporations that offer their employees multiple opportunities for personal and professional improvement.

Past recipients include Acxiom, America Online, Kraft, Experian, Allstate Insurance Co. and R.R. Donnelley.

The DMEF is a nonprofit organization closely related to the DMA. It sponsors a broad range of programs for professors and students.
