DMN 40Under40 2018: Katie Hotze, Senior Principal of Growth Marketing and Sales Enablement, Mercer

This year’s group of DMN 40Under40 winners have a few things in common. Well yes, they’re under 40. Also they have a proven track record of marketing excellence and leadership, whether they’re in roles supporting global brands, or leading their own thriving start-ups. Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to know our winners, and what they’ve accomplished.

Katie Hotze is the Senior Principal of Growth Marketing and Sales Enablement at Mercer

What has been your proudest career accomplishment to date?

Launching Mercer’s Demand Generation marketing function in 2015 is by far my proudest career moment. I recall losing a lot of sleep during the design phase of the segmentation models, the many steps we took to aggregate and rank content, and the workload of shaping (and reshaping!) the results data that we delivered to our global marketers for application in future efforts. I led a dynamic team of “ninjas”, each of whom contributed to our success.  It was the most difficult but also the most rewarding project I have experienced in my nearly 20-year career.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to future 40Under40 honorees?

Read. Read business topics like strategy, leadership, data visualization, and business analytics. Read biographies of leaders who intrigue you. Read blog posts from tech start-ups who are innovating in your space. Read about management philosophy and corporate culture. Giving yourself a wide base of knowledge across topics that excite you will give you depth and value to set you apart.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next 5 years?

I’d like to increase my focus on optimizing the digital experience and connecting those dots back to performance marketing operations and the ultimate value marketing delivers to an organization.

What is one interesting fact about you that few people know?

I was a professional model of bridal gowns in college, mostly working the wedding convention circuit in the spring and fall. It was a ton of fun, paid really well and I only worked on weekends so the schedule was great!
