DMN 40Under40 2018: Michelle Wood, Director of Marketing, Atlantic/Pacific Companies

This year’s group of DMN 40Under40 winners have a few things in common. Well yes, they’re under 40. Also they have a proven track record of marketing excellence and leadership, whether they’re in roles supporting global brands, or leading their own thriving start-ups. Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to know our winners, and what they’ve accomplished.

Michelle Wood is the Director of Marketing at Atlantic/Pacific Companies

What has been your proudest career accomplishment to date?

I am very proud of my own personal career growth over the last 15 years. Having started in an entry level position within my industry and working my way into my current role as Director of Marketing, I have overcome many obstacles and taken every opportunity to learn and grow. In 2014, our company did not have a marketing department and since then I have developed and/or implemented many systems, programs and tools that have streamlined the company’s marketing efforts as we continue to grow and scale for years to come. Being selected as a DMN 40 Under 40 honoree is certainly a proud career moment!

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to future 40Under40 honorees?

My advice for future honorees is to try not compare yourself and your accomplishments to people you look up to in your industry. They are likely years ahead of you in their own journey. Instead you should continue focusing on your own personal growth and challenge yourself at every opportunity. Stay uncomfortable.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

I hope to continue developing our marketing department to ensure it’s capable of sustaining the continued exponential business growth of our company. Every day I strive to educate and inspire others to be their best through hard work, dedication and leadership.

What is one interesting fact about you that few people know?

I had my son when I was 16 years old and was kicked out of my mother’s home when she found out. Through the support of friends and family I was able to finish school, raise my son and begin a career that I am so proud of today. The road was long and there were many hurdles to overcome, but we made it! My son is now 18 years old, pursuing an education in music production in Orlando, FL, and I am a grateful and proud Mom.
