Corporate TPS Regulations Announced in UK

The Direct Marketing Association (UK) said last week that its Corporate Telephone Preference Service will debut June 25, allowing UK businesses to opt out of sales or marketing telephone calls.

The adding of a business component for the TPS amends the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, a European Commission directive stating that it is unlawful for a company to make a sales or marketing telephone call to an individual who indicated he did not want to receive such calls.

The change was made due to small businesses that stated they are unable to manage direct marketing calls.

The TPS consumer file is sent to registered companies. Subscriptions are based on the volume of the file required and the frequency requested. More than 3.5 million consumers are registered with the TPS.
