Coremetrics Buys IBM's SurfAid Division

Web analytics provider Coremetrics, San Mateo, CA, acquired IBM's SurfAid Analytics business, the company said yesterday. In addition, IBM WebSphere and Coremetrics are working together to deliver a multichannel business analytics solution tailored for Web sites running WebSphere Commerce software.

Coremetrics did not disclose the value of the acquisition, though its CEO, Joe Davis, said it was in eight figures.

The acquisition gives Coremetrics complementary Web analytics technology, and the company said both platforms will be merged to maximize value for customers. Launched by IBM Global Services in 1996, SurfAid's clients include Toyota Motor Sales, Verizon Super Pages and Union Bank of California.

It also was announced that Coremetrics and IBM's WebSphere Commerce, an on-demand business software platform, will become e-commerce partners. The collaboration will let customers using IBM WebSphere Commerce better transform data insights into business action.
