CooperCockerham Buys Fulfillment House

Direct marketing agency CooperCockerham Inc., High Point, NC, has plugged the gaps in its fulfillment offerings with the purchase of Collateral Reach Inc.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Collateral Reach will get to keep its name, and a staff of 12 will not be trimmed. Collateral Reach focuses on volume direct mail, data management, information distribution and interactive communications.

“We have been working with a number of fulfillment houses throughout the nation and all of them were willing to manage our larger jobs, but none of them was willing to manage our smaller jobs. It just wasn't worth their while,” said Julian Cockerham, secretary/treasurer at CooperCockerham.

“We send out a lot of legal compliances and live checks,” Cockerham said, “so it's very sensitive, dated material. So we did this as a means of having better control on our smaller jobs.”

Founded in 1987, CooperCockerham has such clients as Wachovia Bank, Winston-Salem, NC; Century Furniture, Hickory, NC; Lifestyles Furnishings, High Point, NC; and Swedish-run chemicals maker Stockhausen, Greensboro, NC.

Services offered by the agency include concept and creative; data and Web structures; print and direct mail; and now fulfillment and distribution through the Collateral Reach purchase.

“Naturally, the major thrust and control of our business is technology and controlled data, but Collateral Reach is the execution of sales material and print material that complements our data services,” Cockerham said.

Billings at the 25-person CooperCockerham last year were $15 million. Collateral Reach's revenue was not disclosed.
