Convergys Plans Second Indian Contact Center

Teleservices provider Convergys Corp. said yesterday it planned to open a contact center in Bangalore, India, the company's second such facility in that nation.

The 1,500-seat call center will open within 30 days, the Cincinnati-based company said. Upon reaching capacity, the call center, along with its sister facility in New Delhi, will rank among the largest of their kind in India, Convergys claimed.

Employment at the new center will exceed 3,000 when it reaches capacity in 12 to 14 months, Convergys said. Convergys has hired about 30 management-level employees for the center, and an initial class of 70 staff-level employees is in training.

The initial group of employees will be hired to provide help-desk services. The contact center also will offer general support services to clients and is capable of voice, e-mail and Web chat communications as well as back-office application and document processing.

Convergys' new facility has four floors and 170,000 square feet of space, plus testing areas, 13 training rooms, a modern language lab, meeting rooms and a cafeteria. It is equipped with ergonomic furniture, power generators and backup systems.

The New Delhi center resembles the Bangalore facility in size and work force, with about 1,500 seats and 3,000 employees.
