If you would like to contribute an article to DMNews on a one-off or regular basis, you’ve landed in the right place.
We like reading fresh, original, and insightful information that helps marketing professionals stay abreast of new tools, tips, and techniques.
If you’re well-versed in any area of marketing, we’d love to hear from you. But first, please read further to know what we are looking for when reviewing your article.
What Makes DMNews Tick
DMNews got its start analyzing which types of direct mail pieces succeeded where others tumbled headlong into the shredder unopened. What made the difference? We simply had to know! By sharing what we learned with our readership, we lived out our conviction that when the tide of effective marketing comes in, it raises everyone’s boat. Experts who shared actionable insights watched their market share increase…without the need to publish thinly-disguised pitch pieces.
Nowadays, of course, potential customers continue to sift through their direct mail pieces with a chilling, devil-may-care attitude. This itself is a sobering reality for marketing professionals. However, it’s even worse what audiences do with their online messages. When anything invades their glowing smartphone screen that doesn’t instantaneously garner love and affection, they swipe it away without another thought.
DMNews gets it.
We want to help marketers learn and grow in their ability to reach the right people with the right message at the right time.
Of course, so many supporting structures come into play that it can be a full-time job just keeping up with new trends and technology. We will deliver the latest winning strategies and toss aside anything that smacks of self-interested fluff or irrelevance.
Stuff We Like
We love to publish pieces that actually help marketers do their jobs and do them with excellence. If you recently tried something new with your marketing approach and noticed a corresponding bump in audience interest and sales conversion, you almost certainly have the raw materials required to put together a compelling piece for DMNews.
Anything related to marketing products and services can serve as fodder for a terrific DMNews article, but we have a few favorite topics. These include, but are not limited to:
- Conversion Techniques
- Streamlining the Sales Funnel
- Customer Experience (CX)
- Marketing Industry Trends
- Tips, Strategies, and Technology
- Return on Investment (ROI)
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Social Media Marketing and Management
You get the idea. If you’ve uncovered a marketing technique that moved the needle for your business, we’d like to give you a platform for sharing that with others.
Please trust us when we say that there’s really no need for you to awkwardly stick in a shameless plug for your products or services. Trust is the key commodity that often seems like it’s in short supply. If you share valuable insights, the rest of the world will beat a path to your door.
Stuff That’s Not Really Our Jam
If it’s not obviously related to sales and marketing, it’s probably not for DMNews. Our readers are looking for scannable headlines and accessible content. As a contributor, you’ll want to tailor your copy for quick comprehension and format it to allow readers to decide for themselves if they have any interest in what you’re writing about.
Repeated submissions that don’t adhere to the guidelines below or contain overly promotional links and/or content often result in an individual contributor or entire organization being blocked from using our publication. Please steer clear of anything that looks remotely like:
- Click Bait-ey Headlines
- Exaggerated and/or Unsubstantiated Claims
- Overly Promotional Pieces
- Plagiarism (We especially dislike this.)
Becoming a Guest Contributor to DMNews
We’ve tried to make getting published on DMNews about as simple as possible. Once you know what we’re looking for (see above) and have identified a topic of interest, sit down and crank out 800 to 1,500 words. We’ve intentionally left the acceptable word count that wide so you can say what needs to be said without feeling the need to add fluff.
Use the form below only after you’ve completed your piece in Google Docs. Make sure you give us editor-level access. We ask that you review the written instructions carefully and comply with all of the indicated guidelines. Failure to do so typically results in a fast delete on our end.
Why You Might Want to Contribute to DMNews
Providing articles for publication on DMNews tells other marketers that you’ve figured out how to cut through the noise. It tells your customers and prospects that you know what you’re talking about. If your material makes it through the DMNews editorial team, it’s because we agree that you are providing value to the sales and marketing space.
When you position yourself as knowledgeable, you build up trust. When you build up trust, you find a corresponding increase in interest. Increased interest leads to more traffic, both online and in-person. When that happens, both your credibility and bottom line get a boost.
We Have Needs, Too.
Failing to provide any of the items below in a format we can all appreciate will only slow down the gears of progress. It might even get your contribution tossed. Transparently, we’ve rejected otherwise great material simply because it was formatted incorrectly, missing key pieces of requested information, or otherwise obvious that the submitting author cared not for our standards.
Contributor Bio and Photo
If you’re going to write for us, you want people to know about it, right? Well, we want to give you credit. Here’s all we need to make that happen:
- Current headshot, 200×200 pixels.
- Plain or non-distracting backdrop only, please.
- 100-150 words telling the world who you are and what you do.
- Please note that we don’t permit links in our author bios, but you certainly should provide sufficient information to make it easy enough to find you online. Your full name and the name of your company ought to do it nicely.
Submitting Contributions That Meet Our Specs
Keep these writing guidelines in mind:
- 800-1,500 words.
- Entirely original content that is directly related to marketing or sales.
