Consortium to Help Libraries

Direct response agency Carl Bloom Associates, New York, has launched a national direct mail program designed to help build donor constituencies and raise money for city, state and regional libraries. The first mailing is set to drop in January and will be done for seven libraries.

The libraries taking part are Queens Borough (NY) Public Library, Library Foundation of Los Angeles, Broward (FL) Public Library, Providence (RI) Public Library, King County (WA) Library System Foundation, Baltimore County Public Library and Kansas City (MO) Public Library. CBA will create a theme, package format and do the list work for the mailings. It is expecting to drop 250,000 pieces as part of the initial mailing.

With more than 3,000 libraries in the United States, CBA is looking to sign more for the next mailing. Future plans to expand the consortium include targeting national organizations with local chapters or groups that share an interest or service such as humane societies, symphonies, dance groups and local art organizations.
