*Conference Debates List Industry's Future

NEW YORK — The future of the list industry will look a lot like the present but will feature better e-mail lists and better e-mail graphics, according to the panel at the opening general session of the Direct Marketing Association's List Vision 2000 conference held here yesterday.

Any extreme privacy legislation passed in the meantime, however, could change matters, panelists said.

“At the end of the day, the most important thing you have is your list,” said panelist Jay Schwedelson of Worldata, Boca Raton, FL. Panelists including Donn Rappaport of American List Counsel, Princeton, NJ, and Ben Isaacson of the Association for Interactive Marketing agreed that the integration of postal and e-mail direct marketing will continue to be the winning combination for direct marketers.

The session, “Shaping the Future of the List Industry,” was moderated by Tom Rocco of Millard Group, Peterborough, NH.
