Compaq to Deliver Disney 'Magic'

Compaq Computer Corp., Houston, and the Walt Disney Internet Group said yesterday that they have signed a three-year agreement naming Compaq as the Disney group's preferred technology provider and a partner in delivering Disney content online.

The agreement, which is valued at more than $100 million, will allow Compaq to “power” some of the most popular sites on the Web, including Disney.com, ESPN.com, ABC.com and ABCNEWS.com. Compaq will provide the technology, equipment and services to the Walt Disney Internet Group, Hollywood, CA.

The two companies also have entered a co-marketing and advertising agreement that will allow Compaq to promote its brand, products and services on Disney's Web sites.

“This alliance represents a very significant revenue-generating opportunity for our business,” Steve Bornstein, chairman of Walt Disney Internet Group, said in a statement. “Moreover, it allows us to consolidate our technology platform and focus our planned technology investment with Compaq, one of the world's leading technology companies that offers leading-edge technology infrastructure solutions.”

“Our alliance is a prime example where Disney's 'imagination' meets Compaq's 'Inspiration Technology,' ” said Michael Capellas, chairman/CEO of Compaq. “That's why this relationship makes so much sense.”
