CometZone Set For Warp Speed with Partnership, Consumer Site

Comet Systems, developer of the Comet Cursor, is hoping to build on its success in 1999 by partnering with Homestead.com today and launching a site for consumers next week.

By installing a plug-in that takes roughly 10 seconds to download, consumer’s standard white cursor arrow is transformed into any of 600 icons and characters including those from Peanuts, Dilbert and Star Trek.

“Cometized” cursors appear on sites that have agreements with Comet Systems, as well as when a cometized banner, distributed by 24/7 Media and Flycast Networks, appears on a site.

CometZone.com, which has 25 million unique users, allows more than 50,000 Web sites to use these cursors free of charge so long as they offer the Comet Systems download on one or more of their Web pages.

To increase this number, Comet Systems is partnering with Homestead.com, a resource for building free Web sites, to offer Comet cursors to its 3 million members.

“The growth in CometZone.com has been astronomical. Our involvement with Homestead.com and its 2 to 3 million members is likely to double that growth,” said Ben Austin, director of marketing at Comet Systems, New York.

To further enhance it’s reach, the site is launching MyCometCursor.com next week. Here, consumers will be able to download Comet cursors to their desktop.

Comet Systems was the second fastest-growing property behind eToys on the Web in the fourth quarter, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. It saw 432.7 percent growth.
