China Southern Airlines Enhances E-Ticket Offering

China Southern Airlines yesterday expanded its e-ticketing service in China.

The airline's site now offers group e-ticket packages designed for travel agents. Visitors can have prices matched and travel expenses calculated.

China Southern, which sold its first e-ticket in China last year, also has expanded its online offerings for seat booking, cargo tracking, its Sky Pearl Club frequent-flier programs and individual travel history services.

China Southern plans on rolling out the e-ticketing feature in Los Angeles — its only U.S. market — and the rest of the world gradually during the coming months, said Jeff Ruffolo, spokesman for the airline.

Ruffolo said the airline is the only one in China to offer e-tickets.

“Internet development over there has been very embryonic,” he said. “It's like where we were at five to 10 years ago. Most of the modems run at 14 or 28K [speed].”
