Chicago Names Street After Howard Draft

A part of Chicago will forever be Draft.

The city today honors the chairman/CEO of direct marketing agency Draft by naming the Northeast corner of St. Clair and Ontario streets as “Honorary Howard Draft Way.” The Draft head office is on North St. Clair Street.

In another naming ceremony, the agency yesterday formally dropped its old DraftWorldwide name. Also adopted are a new logo and new positioning statement: “The Science Behind the Success.” The site address remains draftworldwide.com.

Howard Draft founded his self-named agency 25 years ago in Chicago. The 13-person agency ballooned into a network of 60 offices in 30 countries. Clients include Coca-Cola Co., Hewlett-Packard Co., Kellogg Co., U.S. Postal Service, Verizon, Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Bank of America.

No longer independent, Draft is owned by ad agency conglomerate Interpublic Group of Companies Inc., New York. It recently struck an alliance with Interpublic sibling Lowe & Partners Worldwide to start Lowe + Draft. The new shop will offer integrated marketing services to share clients.
