Launchpoint Buys Zairmail

Launchpoint Inc., Portland, OR, said yesterday that it acquired the assets of Zairmail Inc., a mail-on-delivery company also of Portland.

Launchpoint is funded by Timberline Venture Partners, the Northwest affiliate of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Launchpoint also owns the eLetter and Speedgreetings brands.

Wilson Zehr, former CEO of Zairmail, was appointed president/CEO of Launchpoint. Launchpoint is retaining the Zairmail brand, which serves more than 13,000 small, midsized and large businesses worldwide.

Zairmail developed Zairmail Express Direct, a service that lets direct marketers create direct mail programs from their desktop for delivery in one to two business days. The company has more than 110,000 subscribers to its monthly newsletter. More than 25 partners offer its services including Microsoft, the U.S. Postal Service, Office Depot and Stamps.com.

The new Launchpoint facilities total 15,000 square feet, which more than triples the size of Zairmail's former headquarters in northwest Portland. Launchpoint currently employs fewer than 20 people but aims to expand its call center operations at least 300 percent by the end of the year through hiring, partnerships and acquisitions. In addition, Launchpoint secured matching funding from the Portland Development Commission.
