Catalina Wins Patent for Historical Purchase Behavior at POS

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent to Catalina Marketing Corp. for delivering consumer promotions based on shoppers’ historical purchase data.

Called “Method and System for Selective Incentive Point-of-Sale Marketing in Response to Customer Shopping Histories,” the patent bears the 6,424,949 registration number. It is meant to strengthen Catalina’s loyalty marketing services to manufacturers and retailers.

The patent is 21st in a series of patents from Catalina’s Deaton portfolio and 49th overall for Catalina among those issued in the United States. Catalina has more than 100 foreign-issued patents.

According to the St. Petersburg, FL, company, the Deaton patent portfolio includes a number of methodologies and systems for delivering promotions based on historical data. These methodologies and systems cover data processing and analysis as well as delivery of consumer promotions at POS.
