Caribou Coffee debuts mobile coupon offer

Caribou Coffee Company is ringing up a new promotional strategy with a new partnership with mobile couponing firm Cellfire.

The coffee chain is now running coupons within the Cellfire mobile coupon suite at http://www.cellfire.com in the mobile Web browser or computer in a move to reach the 18-34 year old demographic.

“This is their first foray into mobile marketing, and one of the things they are trying to achieve is to reach a consumer that they haven’t reached before,” said Dwight Moore, VP of corporate communications at Cellfire.

To redeem the coupons, consumers have to sign up for the Cellfire service. The current coupons are $1 off any large drink or a free drink with purchase of a pound of coffee by using the Cellfire service, though this can be updated if the retailer decides. When a consumer redeems the offer, it is removed from the phone.

Then they can use the mobile coupons in Caribou’s 443 retail locations throughout the U.S. by showing the coupon code to the coffee shop employee.  The coupon was first tested in Chicago this past August, but is now available nationwide.
