Cannes Lions Scraps Lions Direct Home Judging

The International Advertising Festival, better known as Cannes Lions, eliminated its preliminary pre-show judging-at-home round of the Lions Direct contest.

All submissions will be judged in the French Riviera resort of Cannes by an increased jury of 30 members and the jury president. Lions Direct entries have increased steadily since the contest's debut in 2002, with the 2005 tally at 1,600.

“Direct marketing is a tactile medium, and as such, it is important that the jury see all the entries from the first judging round in their true format and not digitally,” executive chairman Terry Savage said in a statement from the festival's London headquarters.
