Canada Post to Make Special Delivery for Harry Potter Book

In an unusual move, Canada Post will deliver copies of the new children's book “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” to Canadian consumers' homes tomorrow, the day the book will be released worldwide. Normally, there is no Saturday mail delivery in Canada.

The books will be sent to the first 10,000 Canadians who ordered online from Chapters.ca, a Web site that features books, music CDs, videos, DVDs, software and video games as well as consumer electronics. The Web site is operated by Chapters Online Inc., Toronto, an e-commerce company.

To make the deadline for Canada Post's home delivery tomorrow, Canadian shoppers had to log on to www.chapters.ca to place their order by Wednesday. The book will go on sale at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow. The books will be sent at no extra charge in 23 major cities across Canada.

“Pre-ordering 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' from Chapters.ca is a great way to ensure you get your copy without fighting the crowds of people eagerly awaiting this new release,” said David Hainline, chief operating officer at Chapters Online.

Francine Conn, general manager of distribution business at Canada Post, said that “delivering Harry Potter's latest adventure on a Saturday is a great example of how Canada Post is working to make its home delivery services more flexible.”
