Canada Post Reports 277 Anthrax-Related Incidents

Canada Post has had 277 anthrax-scare incidents since September, and most of the cases have come from powder spilling from packages and envelopes in post offices and postal plants, the agency told the Financial Post yesterday.

No trace of anthrax has been found in the Canadian mail. However, some facilities have been shut down or evacuated, and sections of facilities have been cordoned off for investigations.

While the U.S. Postal Service last week asked Congress for $2 billion in emergency funding and another $3 billion to deal with the anthrax crisis, Canada Post said the disruptions have cost just hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost productivity.
