Cadmus Sells Direct Division to Hawkeye

Cadmus Communications Corp., Richmond, VA, yesterday announced the sale of its Cadmus Direct Marketing division to Hawkeye Communications, New York, a privately held marketing services holding company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This marks the fourth company acquired by 10-month-old Hawkeye, according to president/CEO G. Steven Dapper, who was previously chairman/CEO of direct marketing agency Rapp Collins Worldwide, a division of Omnicom. Cadmus Direct will remain in Charlotte, NC.

Dennis Duffy, president at Cadmus Direct will continue to lead the $11 million direct marketing group adding CEO to his title. Cadmus Direct becomes a wholly owned division of Hawkeye Direct Marketing Services, which is a unit of Hawkeye Communications. Its name will change by Jan. 1, but a new name has not yet been decided.

“We’ve been able to acquire a great company with a lot of talent and a great client list,” Dapper said. “They’re our database arm in the consumer field.” Clients include Blockbuster, Cracker Barrel restaurants, and Godiva Chocolatier.

Hawkeye is on an acquisitive streak with ambitious plans to become a force in marketing services. Dapper has letters of intent with three more organizations – a digital design firm, a channel marketer and a crisis management firm, and he said he expects to announce those acquisitions by the end of this month.
