BusinessWeek moves top editor online

BusinessWeek has shifted top editor John Byrne from its print publication to lead BusinessWeek.com, a move signifying the importance of the online medium to the business publisher.

Mr. Byrne replaces Kathy Rebello, who has left to “pursue other opportunities.” He will continue to report to Stephen J. Adler, BusinessWeek editor in chief.

“BusinessWeek.com is an essential part of our future and our franchise, and no one is more qualified than John to run it,” Mr. Adler said in a statement.

New responsibilities for Mr. Byrne include overseeing the editorial operations of BusinessWeek.com and conducting the further integration and collaboration between the print and online editorial staffs.

BusinessWeek.com saw a 22 percent increase in monthly users in the past year, and unique users per month now number more than 6.7 million. Recently added features on the site include the Company Insight Center, expanded blog, video and podcast offerings and news summaries.

Mr. Byrne rejoined BusinessWeek in August 2005 after serving as editor in chief of Fast Company magazine. He had previously worked for BusinessWeek for nearly 18 years.
