Texas Governor and Presidential candidate George W. Bush has chosen Clay Johnson, the former head of the Horchow Collection catalog-which is now part of Neiman-Marcus–as executive director of Bush’s transition team, according to reports.
In this position, Johnson will have the task of filling some 3,000 jobs.
Currently, Johnson is Bush’s chief of staff.
Bush and Johnson met as sophomores at Phillips Academy at Andover, MA. After graduating from MIT's Sloan School of Management in 1970, Johnson went to work for Frito Lay, later moving on to Wilson Sporting Goods and Citicorp. In 1981, he joined Horchow Mail Order, an upscale catalogue company, as marketing director. By the time he sold his shares in 1991, Johnson was running the company.
Johnson made a tidy sum when it was sold to Neiman Marcus, and by 1994, he was chief operating officer for the Dallas Museum of Art.
