Online and offline cataloger Brookstone Inc., Nashua, NH, yesterday announced increased earnings for fourth quarter and fiscal year 1999. The innovative tool marketer reported a 19.9 percent increase in net income to $22.4 million, or $2.64 per diluted share, as compared to a net income of $18.7 million, or $2.25 per diluted share for the four quarter of 1998. Direct marketing sales in the fourth quarter increased 59.8 percent to $25.2 million, with Internet sales increasing 980.1 percent to $3.9 million compared to $.4 million last year.
For fiscal year 1999, ending Jan. 29, 2000, Brookstone’s net income increased 42.5 percent to $13.3 million, or $1.58 per diluted share, compared to net income of $9.3 million, or $1.13 per diluted share for fiscal 1998. Direct marketing sales increased 72.7 percent to $50.2 million, with Internet sales increasing 643.7 percent to $4.2 million compared to $.6 million in 1998.
