The hook for consumers is specialized information like local theater show times, personalized stock quotes and scores for local sports teams. Readers can enter their ZIP code for a local weather report while staying on top of the latest headlines.
This service lets advertisers reach consumers on their wireless devices through both Boston.com and the user’s wireless service providers. The service can be activated for free from any Web-based handheld device by visiting Boston.com or from any of the local news menus on most major service providers including Cingular, Verizon and Sprint.
Boston.com is a regional site owned by The New York Times Co., which includes the flagship New York Times, Boston Globe, the International Herald Tribune, several daily newspapers, nine network-affiliated television stations, two New York radio stations and 35 sites. The company’s combined reported revenue for 2005 was $3.4 billion.
